Through Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy the therapist uses their own integrative model which incorporates a fusion of specific schools of psychotherapy that they work well with. Integrative Psychotherapy embraces an attitude towards the practice of psychotherapy that affirms the inherent value of each individual. Below are some schools in psychotherapy.
Person - Centred Therapy
Person-centred therapy is a therapeutic approach which aims to value a client’s experience in a non-judgemental and empathic way. A goal of person-centred therapy is to aid the client to reach their full potential. Person Centred Therapy is to provide clients with an opportunity to develop a sense of self wherein they can realize how their attitudes, feelings and behaviour are being negatively affected and make an effort to find their true positive potential.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT
Due to negative life experiences we may have developed feelings, behaviours and thoughts that hinder our well being, how we live our lives and sometimes do not serve us. CBT is a form of therapy where patterns and belief systems are challenged in order to engage in a new more positive approach to life. New coping strategies and responses to negative experiences are explored and learned.
Psychosynthesis
It is both a theory and practice where the focus is to achieve a synthesis, a coming together, of the various parts of an individual's personality into a more cohesive self. That person can then function in a way that is more life-affirming and authentic.
In its most basic sense, psychosynthesis is simply a name for the process of growth - the integration of previously separate elements into a more comprehensive unification or synthesis. It believes each of us has an innate drive toward the unfolding of ourselves, and that we can choose to consciously support that process.
It offers a framework that enables a more complete understanding of ourselves, our capacities, and our relationships, as well as skills and techniques, to help us deal with these effectively and safely.
